Sketches an Progress

Trying to get back into drawing/painting a little bit--never would have thought art-school would have left me out of practice. It's nice to have a metric ton of reference photos too.

The cathedral window skirt plods on, this is an all-summer sort of project, I can see.

Sketch of what (I hope) it looks like on completion.

I also found a pair of shoes at the thrift store today that have a really interesting, lastless construction that I definitely want to explore.

  1. This is a very informative blog as it is showing sketches in progress. I was searching for it from long time.

  2. I love your blog too....I am a process and materials junkie...the exploration is almost more important than the final outcome.

  3. I love these Indian shoes. You can find them a lot on markets in San Francisco (where I live) and I love the shape and the fit but the stitching on the bottoms wear out at light-speed on the pavement. Got ideas for a solution? good re-soling method?

i used to be at tinytreasures.wordpress.com btw, but i'm currently building all my work into one umbrella site. i still love everything you're doing over here.

  4. Unfortunately, really any leather soled shoe, even channel-cut ones, are not great on concrete. You could always just cut another sole out of some thick leather, but that's about it, really.

  5. I tried to do something akin, but with suede and lace... and I wound up only being able to use it on the waistband.. poor planning and even poorer foreshadowing did not take into account how thick suede is, so it wouldn't bunch like that.
